The refrigeration cycle requires the addition of external work for its operation. The diagram of the equipment and the temperature entropy diagram of the refrigeration cycle. The process which constitute the cycle are: 1-2 Adiabatic compression. 2-3 Isothermal rejection of heat. 3-4 Adiabatic expansion. 4-1 Isothermal addition of heat. All the process in the Carnot cycle are thermodynamically reversible . Process 1-2 and 3-4 isentropic. The withdrawal of heat from low temperature source in process 4-1is the refrigeration step and is the entire purpose of the cycle. All the other processes in the cycle function so that the low temperature energy can be discharged to some convenient high temperature sink. VAPOUR COMPRESSION CYCLE The vapour compression cycle is the most widely used refrigeration cycle in practice. In this cycle vapour is compressed, then condensed to a liquid, following which the pressure so that fluid can evaporate at low pressure. The standard vapour compression cycle is shown in temperature enthalpy diagram. The process constituting the standard vapour compression cycle are: 1-2 Reversible and adiabatic compression from saturated vapour to condenser pressure. 2-3 Reversible rejection of heat at constant pressure, causing de-superheating and condensation of refrigerants; 3-4 Irreversible expansion at constant enthalpy from saturated liquid to the evaporated pressure; 4-1 Reversible addition of heat at constant pressure causing evaporation to saturated vapour. PERFORMANCE OF THE STANDARD VAPOUR COMPRESSION CYCLE With the help of pressure-enthalpy diagram, the significant quantities of the standard vapour compression cycle will be determined. These quantities are the work of compression, heat rejection rate, refrigerating effect, COP, volume rate of flow per KW of refrigeration and power per KW of refrigeration. The work of compression in KJ per kg is the changes in enthalpy in process 1-2 of (H1-H2). The difference in enthalpy is a negative quantity, indicating the work is done on the system. The heat rejection in KJ/kg is the heat transferred from the refrigerants in process 2-3,which is (H3-H2). The value of H3-H2 is negative, indicating that the heat is transferred from the refrigerant . The value of the heat rejection used in sizing the condenser and calculating the required flow quantities of the condenser cooling fluid. The refrigerants effect in KJ/kg is the heat transferred in process 4-1, or H1-H4 . The COP of the standard VCRS is the refrigerating effect is divided by the work of the compression: COP=(H1 -H4 )/(H2 -H1 ) The volume flow rate in m3 /s is computed at the compression inlet or state point 1, the volume flow rate is the rough indication of physical size of the compressor. The power per KW of refrigerant is the inverse of the COP, and efficient refrigeration system has low value of power per KW of refrigeration but high COP. ACTUAL VAPOUR COMPRESSION CYCLE The actual vapour compression cycle suffer from insufficiencies compared with the standard cycle. There are also other changes from standard cycle, which may be intentional or unavoidable. The essential difference between actual and standard cycle appear in pressure drops condenser and evaporator, in the sub cooling of liquid leaving the condenser, and in the superheating of evaporator leaving the evaporator . The standard cycle assumes no drop in pressure in condenser and evaporator. Because of friction, however, the pressure of the refrigerants drops in actual cycle. The results of these drops in pressure are that compression process between 1-2 require more work than the standard cycle. Sub cooling of the liquid in the condenser is a normal occurrence and serves the desirable functions of insuring that hundred percent liquid enter the expansion valve. Superheating of the vapour usually occur in the evaporator and is recommended as a precautions against droplet of liquid being carried over in the compressor. The final difference in actual cycle is that the compression is no longer isentropic and there are inefficiencies due to friction and other losses. Hispanics or Latinos are defined as a people of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, South or Central American, or other Spanish speaking culture. This term â€Å"Hispanics† was created by the U. S. federal government in the early 1970’s to refer to Americans born in a Spanish speaking nation or with ancestry to Spanish territories. Hispanics people are vibrant, socializing, and fun loving people. Among various facts associated to this culture is that they have a deep sense of involvement in their family traditions and cultures. Hispanics / Latinos have strong non-verbal and verbal ways of communication. To better understand one another they overly rely the use of non-verbal communication. This includes facial expressions, hand and body movements, physical touch, voice pitch, voice sounds, and physical appearances. A Hispanic mother screaming as her child takes their first steps is a type of sound and facial expressions use to show emotion without words. A firm handshake is a common practice between people as greeting and as they leave. A hug and a light kiss on a cheek are also common greetings practices between woman, and men and woman who are close friends or family. Children are also though to practice this ways of greetings to their elders in a way to show respect. Men also hug each other in sign of affection. Making eye contact when being spoken to is also a sign of respect, especially if the person is elder. I remember if my mother was talking to me as a child and I looked away, I was in so much trouble! Non-verbal communication is very important in face-to-face communication also because it shows feelings, intentions, and reactions. In the Hispanic culture respect is highly valued and shown by using formal titles when communicating verbally. Communicating phrases are used daily like â€Å"A sus ordenes† (at your command), â€Å"para servirle a usted† (at your service), â€Å"mi reyna† (my queen), or â€Å"mi rey† ( my king). When it comes to advice, Hispanic families prefer to communicate with their elders because of their experience. For example, when one becomes sick the elder may advice a safe simple home remedy. The Hispanic culture has different values, beliefs, and traditions. Family is highly value. Family is a close-knit group and the most important social group to gather in any events or special days. The Hispanic â€Å"family unit† includes not only parents and children but also grandparents and extended family. Individuals within the family have moral responsibilities to help other members of the family experiencing financial problems, unemployment, health conditions and any other life issues. They show the importance placed upon relationship within their family extending a hand in good times and bad. Respeto y dignidad (respect and dignity) are other important values of the Hispanic culture. Children’s are taught to avoid confrontations with parents and older persons, and to be obedient and respectful. The Hispanics believe that the father is head of the family and the mother is to take care of home. Naming children after grandparents and parents is fairly common. A well-known tradition is the celebration of a fifteen year old girl called Quincenera. Hispanics culture and traditions are based around celebrating and spending time with love ones. Hispanics usually give great importance to and place great value on looks and appearance as a sense of honor, dignity, and pride. Formal attire is commonly used for going to church and all religious celebrations as well as parties, social gatherings, and work, Although this tradition seems less common in Latinos that have been in the USA for a while. Tennis shoes and jeans however are becoming more popular among Hispanic woman particularly in non-formal events. It is very important to know that most Americans who were born in or have ancestry of a Spanish speaking nation see themselves and refer to themselves by their ethnic identity. For example, they prefer usually to be referred as Cuban, Mexican, Colombian, or Puerto Rican, not as Hispanic or Latino. Most historians agree that the seeds of the Second World War have been sown soon after the end of the First World War. During the months and years after the First World War, political and economic events like the treaty of Versailles, the great economic depression of 1929, the rise of Nazism, and Hitler’s ambitions for German expansion were some of the causes of the war to come. The treaty of Versailles signed in June 1919 by the allied powers who were the victors of the First World War was very harsh on Germany and held the country solely responsible for the war. The German people believed that Woodrow Wilson’s fourteen points program would be the basis for the treaty, but the French president Georges Clemenceau and the British prime minister David Lloyd George bowed before the anger of their people who demanded that Germany should be se verely punished for the suffering and devastation caused. The sentiment of the allies was as follows, â€Å"If these things are hardships for Germany, they are hardships which Germany has brought upon herself† (â€Å"Allied Reply†). The humiliating terms of the treaty whipped up feelings of anger and frustration among the Germans. Territorial losses, the reduction of the army and navy, and, above all, the fact that Germany was forced to accept the responsibility for having caused the war, were particularly galling. According to the treaty, Germany was forced to pay reparation for the damages suffered in the war by the victors; the map of Europe was redrawn, and parts of Germany were transferred to countries like France, Poland, Belgium, Denmark, and Czechoslovakia. The reparations that Germany was forced to pay was an added burden on the country’s already stretched finances. The German economy, in shambles after the war, was further eroded by the fact that the c ountry had lost some of its colonies that were rich sources of income and raw materials. Besides the economic burden, Germany had lost millions of her able bodied men who would have constituted a strong work force. The people thought the government had betrayed them, so they did not trust it. The monarchy was overthrown and a new democratic republic called the Weimar Republic was proclaimed; it fell in 1933 under the onslaught of the myriad problems Germany faced. Hitler used the treaty of Versailles as a battle cry to rally the people and promised that Germany would take her rightful place as a strong nation before long. This was a balm to the wounded pride of the nation, and people were ready to back Hitler by 1933. By 1929, the German economy was just beginning to recover from the effects of the First World War with the efforts of Gustav Stresemann, Germany’s untiring foreign minister, beginning to show results. The stock market crash of 1929 that reverberated across the g lobe and sent financial markets around the world into a tailspin also crushed German hopes of economic recovery. The German economy, propped up by loans from America, was â€Å"only flourishing on the surface. Germany is in fact dancing on a volcano. If the short-term credits are called in, a large section of our economy would collapse† (â€Å"Weimar Republic and the Great Depression†). Just before Stresemann’s death, his words have proved prophetic. The German economy, which depended on American loans for capital, was badly hit when America needed the funds to prop up her own faltering economy after the crash. Foreign trade dried up, and German industry ground to a halt.
